Florida Trip to be Documented
The trip will be shown in a few days.
Over 250 disc golf photos were taken.
The Cannon shop is working overtime to help with this task.
I would like to mention, I believe I was around, +3-4 for FOUR Courses.
I have all scorecards for all courses, and NO cheating.
No time for cheating, and my wife kept score the entire time.
Awesome pic's to come in the next few days.

Ace or NOT!

No and there probably never will be. Becauuse it's only bragging rights and because there isn't any real reason to keep track of that statistic, there probably will never be a formal definition, nor should there be.
But there is a legit reason for defining what an ace is when it comes to paying out an ace pot. I can easily see the scenario where a player re-tees for an OB and throws the re-teed disc directly into the basket and expects to be paid on the ace pot. That could get ugly if the TD hasn't previously defined the payout criteria or "what is an ace".
IMO it seems logical that an "ace" was originally meant to mean throwing the disc into the basket with only one throw. Combined with the use of terms like "birdie", "bogie", etc. all of which start counting from a tee shot, it is again logical that an "ace" means throwing the disc from the tee to the basket in one throw.
Disc golf is a game and with most games there is an element of scoring by which measure the winners and losers.
"Birdies", "pars", "bogies" all deal with the score you logged on a given hole. As such it's logical that the term "ace" should also be relative to a score on a hole.
Keeping score implies the playing of the game.
It's generally accepted that an "ace" is better than a "birdie", "eagle", or "albatross", which must mean that it's a lower score. That drives the required score for an "ace" down to a single stroke and eliminates the possibility of an "ace" on a re-tee for any reason.
Through all this logical progression it makes sense to me that the purest form of an "ace" is the first and only throw from a tee into a basket as part of a game of disc golf (as defined by the standard rules).
Websters seems to generally agree:
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/ace
But clearly the term "ace" has evolved as many people use phrases like "fairway ace", "practice ace", "warm-up ace", and even "empty your bag ace". IMO these are terms invented or used by those wanting to feel better about certain throws, some of which may be fantastic, but are not "real aces". "Fairway ace" is probably the most liberally egregious [mis]use of the the term "ace", as the user has determined that a second or greater throw of some random distance from the basket qualifies for memebership in the "ace" club. Given that usage example I have so many "10-meter circle aces" I've lost track.
I think a good rule of thumb is that if it didn't happen in a round of disc golf or you have to qualify your "ace" with some other word in front of it... like "practice" or "fairway", then it's not a "real" ace.

Kid Wonder
David Wiggins Jr. sets another record
Another year, another record. While it wasn't the World Record held by Christian Sandstrom, "Lil Wig" busted out a throw of 735 feet (!) at the High Desert Challenge. David Jr. now holds the record for any throw under the age of 18. He's got more in him, he's only 14! He now has the sixth longest throw ever recorded. Phenomenal!

Whispering Falls Sunday Meet
Funs Times at the Falls.
Beautiful Day.
We had 13, and only 5 decided to play competitve.
Justyn trailed by 6 after nine but motored back to
regain the lead by a stroke after the 16th hole to
stay slightly above the field.
The 3 way tie for 2nd ensued.
Eric says, "Justyn just lost cause you added the
scores on the 16th hole Bob!"
Justyn has a huge drive and chokes upon the sill
fence and takes a four while everyone takes 3's,
as well as Eric with a nice 30 foot comeback putt.
Hole 17, and the wind picks up. Brad overdrives the
the OB by 15 feet, Eric goes OB; almost squeezing through the mando.
Justyn hits the sill fence while the rest of the group, had no arm
left to clear and landing WAY left of the water hazard.
Eric takes the circle 5 and fours around except Brad hits a huge 3
from the shit lie. Brad wins the day, but Eric hits a 40 footer
to tie for 2nd!
Great times were had.

Putting 101
Fundamentals of Hideous Putting
By Jason Southwick
Let's be clear what we're talking about here. We're not talking about missing half your 20-footers. That's considered bad putting in some circles, but here we're talking about being fairly incapacitated from five to 10 feet, and missing the entire basket a lot of the time. And of course being terrified before the putt, and mortified afterwards. What happens during the putt is hard to remember, due to your little nervous breakdown. You can try covering it up with self-deprecation, but truth is, most people on the planet - and many of them have never even seen a golf disc - can putt way better than you right now. Then again, most of them don't have brand new facial twitches and a loud ringing in their ears.
And it's not something that comes quickly. You can't just walk onto a disc golf course and be a hideous putter. It takes thousands and thousands of putts over many years, covering dozens of putting styles and any number of putters. Hideous putting also requires brooding, and attaching your self-worth directly to the shortest of putts.
With the proper negative energy, nurtured by a deep-seated fear of failure, we can make our putting so hideous that people look away. And the one friend who's not giving you the silent treatment asks, shocked, "What was THAT?"
Well, it's not easy. Here are a few ideas for climbing into the abyss.
Bad Posture, the Key to Sucking at Any Sport
A few years back I gave a disc golf lesson to a big strong man, and we began with putting. Right off the bat he's all kinds of nervous, and can't reach the basket from 15 feet with his straddle putt. He somehow looks like so many bad putters, just worse. It dawns on me he's making the classic mistake of reaching the disc toward the basket - to make the putt shorter and, presumably, easier - while necessarily sticking his butt out in the opposite direction.
Problem is, in that position, it's difficult to muster enough coordination for even regular bad putting, never mind enough oomph to actually reach the target. It can be mind-boggling to witness otherwise normal disc golfers reaching forward in this awkward standing broad jump pose, eight feet away from the basket, as if they're trying to defuse a basket-shaped bomb with a disc-shaped remote control.
So if you define success as failure, remember to maximize the distance between the release point of your putt, and your rear end. Guaranteed to raise your score while amusing your friends. And one of the bedrocks of hideous putting.
Jason demonstrates extreme "Reach Closer So You Won't Have to Throw it as Far" putting, the perfect stance for unearthing that truly humiliating stroke that resides in all of us.
Footfault Every Single Time
Develop the habit of stepping on your mini upon release, and stepping over it afterwards. The idea here is to send the subliminal message to Captain Brain that you're unworthy. While disc golf will naturally rob us of our confidence, we can greatly accelerate the demoralization process by making our bad putting also illegal, the way Shaq used to step over the foul line after every foul shot.
The fact that cheating brings you a little closer to the target won't help one bit, and chances are, like poor Shaq stepping over the foul line, you won't be called on it that often. Why? Because what you're doing is so obviously not helping.
And because, as fellow disc golfers, we recognize that you're suffering enough already.
Thought Flashes
Thought flashes are the opposite of mantras. A mantra is something you repeat in your head over and over, in a calm, slow Keith Oberman voice: "Put the bisquit in the basket." Thought flashes are much more sudden, involuntary, and sound a lot like Sam Kinison screaming words so offensive they'd make the most hardened PDGA Monitor blush -- even if you wrote them without vowels.
No putting can attain true hideousness without well-timed thought flashes.
When the Psyche Goes Bad
The psyche is the whole shebang. It's what you're thinking and what you know and don't know, what you remember as well as everything you've forgotten. And if your body isn't part of your psyche, it's the car the psyche's driving, often erratically, especially on those short putts where your skin crawls right off of you, stands up on its own with holes for eyes and laughs in your face. And it's not a nice sort of laugh, either.
Whatever messes with your psyche, is guaranteed to mess with your putting. They are reflections of each other.
"Hurry up and miss," says my former skin, suddenly bored with the inevitable.
And of course I clang the front of the basket from nine feet and, since my skin's new job is to mock me, my blood and organs spill out of me onto the ground next to my poor putter.
Solutions
You can improve your posture, avoid footfaulting, suppress some of the more shattering thought flashes, start actually practicing, and visit a sports psychologist. All of this may help. When you're in hideous putting mode, however, your best bet is to simply surrender to it and accept it.
Sooner or later the vortex in your head will settle, your confidence will return, and you'll be putting as well as the first time you ever picked up a disc.

Locastro Launches NT with Win at Memorial.
The first stop of the 2009 PDGA National Tour concluded today in Scottsdale, Arizona at The Memorial. Nikko Locastro continued his early season success by capturing his first NT title, besting world-class golfer Avery Jenkins, 3-time Memorial champion Barry Schultz, and Arizona's own Paul Ulibarri.
Locastro pocketed the $2500 first place prize by riding the momentum from his 1089-rated second round in Fountain Hills. The Missouri native is one of the most colorful players on the NT, as well as one of the most talented. Still only 20 years old, Locastro has come into the 2009 disc golf season on a mission, adding the Memorial title to two other wins and a second he has accomplished already in this early part of the season.
Val Jenkins followed up last week's Gentlemen's Club title in Las Vegas with her second consecutive Memorial Championship this weekend in Scottsdale. Her two throw win over rival Des Reading and three over Liz Lopez gets Jenkins off to a great start during this 2009 season, as well. The two-time defending World Champion is playing with a high confidence level that is translating nicely into her game, especially with her intermediate approach shots.

Gateway Clear E

David MacCormack can't sit still. When he's not creating courses, running local tournaments, sponsoring players, organizing the GDS Tour, making bags, making minis, making baskets, dying discs, and generously sharing his knowledge and experience with an increasingly vast frisbee golf universe, David makes discs. Really cool, really interesting discs.
Recently he acquired a new batch of plastic that's both see-through and rubbery. Clear Evolution, or E Clear, is sometimes transparent, sometimes translucent and sometimes, depending on the additives uses, opaque. What is it like? Gummy Champion or Gummy Z. Sounds like a great "Blowfly" driver, or as the folks in the NE call it,
the "Flyby."
The Groove

The hotly anticipated Champion Groove has arrived, and it appears all the hype was true. A cross between the Monarch and a Boss, the Groove merges a wide wing found on today's fastest drivers with Innova's new groove technology, with an underwing groove much wider than the Monarch's. It's this groove in the wing that allows Innova to produce the disc in much lighter weights. In essence, Innova has been adding speed by adding material to the wing, making a class of drivers accessible only to the strongest of arms. Now, by keeping the wing wide and removing some of its material via the groove, Innova has found a way for the marinara-armed among us to keep pace with all the testosterone-based primates taking home the cash every weekend.

DISC GOLF COMES TO THE MOUNT!!
Ching!! That’s the sound you’ll hear as the disc hits against the chains and comes to rest into the bottom of the basket. No need for tee times, balls, clubs or greens fees! Disc golf is very similar to ball golf. The object is to shoot the lowest score by making it to the basket (hole) in the least amount of strokes. All you need is a disc (or Frisbee) and the desire to have a good time outdoors. See map of course and rules below.

Infringement?!

Copyright Infringement?
You Decide.
A few Days ago, Team Grunt member Eric, recieved an e-mail from PDGA Director Brian Graham. It stated that the "bowl hole" Logo was a copyright infringement against the PDGA. I have not heard anything as such. I AM TEAM GRUNT. SO, Mr. Graham.
Contact the author of the blog, not someone whom has left a comment.
Until further notice, the "bowl-hole" logo will stay. This is another reason why the PDGA SUCKS. Mr. Graham, learn to use the internet a lil better, and please contact me personally. This is not a he said/ she said world. This site was intended for the 5 members of Team Grunt and perhaps any other avid fan of DG whom may have stumbled upon this poor excuse for my spare 10 minutes of a single day.
I hope the PDGA does not PAY you to surf the net and find supposed "copyrights."
This is possibly the reason I will never pay your ridiculous extorsion fees each season. Thanks for making me laugh!
