Innova APE

he Ape can handle the raw, primal power of disc golfs biggest arms. Extremely fast and stable, the Ape is a "must have" distance driver for windy conditions and sharp doglegs. Sidearm drivers will learn the Ape is more than capable of standing up to even the most intense torque. The Ape is an outstanding choice for backhand or sidearm throws as well as a variety of niche flex shots.

New Disc

QuiveR: The future of Multi-Purpose!
The QuiveR™ is our newest INNOVAtion. We've taken the best parts of our four best sellers and fused them into one mold! What we pulled from the molding machine just may be the future of disc golf. A disc with four distinct rim shapes so you’ll have a “quiver” of discs at your disposal... all in one disc.

How does it work?
Our new QuadRim™ technology allows one disc to perform the task of an entire bag. On the tee, Hold the QuiveR by the Distance Driver rim, pick your line and rip it! We chose the Wraith as the mold of choice here, giving players range and glide with minimal fade. Need a stable shot? Grab the TeeBird rim. With the stability to handle the wind or your sidearm, it is the perfect choice. When you are looking for true flying tunnel shots, grab the Roc rim. With the Aviar rim, just aim and fire just like any other putter. It will fly straight into the chains. As a bonus, the QuadRim™ can actually reduce your carbon footprint and increase your rounds per day. With less waste and less to carry, you’ll be saving the planet and your back!

his will make learning disc golf so much more fun. One disc to rule them all!
said Sam Ferrans, PDGA World Champion and Hall of Fame Member
The QuadRim™ line:
While this disc will be quite amazing, we don’t want to stop there! We are developing a complete QuadRim™ line of discs. The QuackeR will combine the Hydra, Dolphin, Dragon and Wahoo for the ultimate floating golf disc. Also in the works is a beginner version - combining the Polecat, Stingray, Leopard, and Roadrunner. This disc will be available in 150 class.

Choose your plastics!
QuadRim™ technology not only gives you four discs in one, but up to four plastics in one disc. Testing has shown that we can HyperFuse our plastics to create discs with different plastics used for each of the different quadrants: ¼ DX, ¼ R-Pro, ¼ Champion, ¼ Star plastic. For use in all conditions!

his is the best four-in-one disc I have ever thrown.
Steve Wisecup, PDGA World Champion and Disc Golf Hall of Fame Member
You may be thinking:
Is it PDGA Approved? Well, honestly, the answer is: Almost. When we submitted our batch of QuiveRs, the PDGA Technical team were a little stumped. Their equipment and measuring devices were designed for a single rim design. So they are in the process of creating a new set of testing procedures for our new technology. We are positive it will pass, as the QuiveR was developed from PDGA approved discs.

When will the QuiveR be available?
Pending PDGA approval the QuiveR™ will be available June 31.

Feldberg

Feldberg climbs past Climo with a new record 1046 rating. Is 1050 possible?

David Feldberg finally reaches a goal he had been working for but had proven elusive - until now. His 1046 rating posted in this March 29th ratings update is now the highest rating ever posted, passing Ken Climo's 1044 first posted in September 2002. Climo has held the top personal rating since they started with a 1032 average in the 1998 Cincinnati Worlds. Feldberg came close last August tying Climo's 1044. But he wanted one extra point and finally got two.

In this same update, let's not overlook Nikko Locastro who also posted his highest rating ever at 1043 and now has our third highest rating all-time. Ken Climo also returned to 1040-land posting a 1040. It's likely the first time we've had three players with ratings in the 1040s at the same time. Our players with the top five personal ratings ever achieved are now: David Feldberg 1046, Ken Climo 1044, Nikko Locastro 1043, Jesper Lundmark 1041 and Darrell Nodland 1040. No other player has gotten to 1040 with Barry Schultz just missing, reaching 1039 three different times in 2003, 2004 and 2006.

As you might expect, several of Feldberg's rounds have made this "best rounds of all time" list several times. But he still hasn't joined the 1100 club with just seven members. Only Brian Skinner, Ken Climo, Brian Schweberger, Josh Anthon, Steven Rico, Matt Orum and Barry Schultz have ever posted rounds of 1100 rating or higher. But as far as ratings goals this year, Feldberg's focus is on his overall rating, not necessarily stellar rounds. David says, "It is a goal of mine that I set this year to reach a 1050 rating. I know it will be difficult, but I think it is possible. I am very happy with my new rating and I hope it can keep climbing." What are your ratings goals for 2011?

Schusterick Wins Prestegious USDGC at only 18 Years Old!

In a final round that saw the lead swing back and forth during a dramatic back nine of OB thrills and spills, Will Schusterick managed to navigate the treacherous yellow OB rope the best as he beat the world’s elite including USDGC defending champion Nikko Locastro, who just barely fell short of his repeat title.

USDGC Final Standings

After the round Schusterick, 18, now the youngest USDGC winner, couldn’t hide his big smile. He said words could not describe what he was feeling after winning the game’s most prestigious tournament.

“It’s the best feeling in the world. You think you could explain it, but you just can’t,” said a jubilant Schusterick soaking it all in.

“You got it this year,” said a gracious Locastro giving Schusterick one last hug near the clubhouse. “Today’s for you.”

The Knoxville, Tenn. resident has finished well in big tournaments before like placing 6th in the Japan Open this year as well as a respectable 20th place at last year’s USDGC. Plus, he’s won many smaller PDGA tournaments. But this one by far takes the cake. He ended up shooting (-28) for the tournament, two better than Locastro. Both men shot a 64 (-4) on Saturday.

Much like Locastro’s USDGC victory last year, the win shoots Schusterick into the upper echelon of disc golfers – especially after doing it at one of the hardest Winthrop Gold penalty settings to date.

“A superstar is born,” said a congratulating Stan McDaniel to Schusterick as he waited for the award ceremony to begin.

Others finishing the week strong were third place finisher Steve Brinster at (-23) followed by Finland’s Jussi Meresmaa, who shot (-21) for the tournament.

However, it was almost not to be for the young Schusterick.

Neck and neck with Locastro through the front nine, disaster struck on hole 12 and almost cost Schusterick everything.

Going into the hole with a one stroke lead over Locastro, Schusterick bombed his drive, but on his flick approach shot from 370 feet out he skidded OB.

The large crowd of several hundred following the hole couldn’t believe it either. Then, throwing a similar flick driver, he again went OB, which was met by another groan from the gallery. With stroke & distance penalties, his chances of winning the big one suddenly seemed to disappear right before his eyes.

The turn of events were practically the opposite of round two when Nikko took a 10 on the hole while Schusterick recorded a birdie 4.

Squatting close to the ground after finally getting near the pin, Schusterick seemed dazed and tried to regroup as Locastro, who later birdied the hole, took a three stroke lead.

“Everybody got it. And that was my turn,” Schusterick said referring to the ever present OB.

Schusterick must have hit the right switch because his next throw was a beauty off hole 13′s tee.

“I just told myself I need to stop questioning what I’m doing,” Schusterick said after the round.

Astoundingly, he threw a Rhyno putter, which sailed perfectly over the OB road bordering the hole and landed safely in the fairway some 350 feet away. After laying up for better position, he scorched a spike hyzer, leaving him in great position for a birdie putt.

Nikko’s big hyzer birdie approach shot skipped wide of the hole and left him a tough birdie putt that he later missed. Schusterick hit his and cut the deficit to two.

Still, it seemed Schusterick would need some help from Locastro to get back in the lead. After Schusterick played a spike hyzer that flirted with the right side of hole 14′s OB he got just that and more when Locastro went OB twice on his drive. Many in the gallery could not believe what they were seeing.

All of a sudden Schusterick was catapulted right back into the lead, three strokes over Nikko.

Stroke & distance strikes again.

After the round, Locastro was disgusted at the effort he put forth toward the end.

“I had every opportunity in the whole world. I didn’t play the course like I should have,” said the 2010 Japan Open champ, who added that his original intention on hole 14 was to go wider to the right.

After seeing Locastro struggle on the hole Schusterick tried to keep a level head about it.

“I knew nothing was handed to me. I had to finish it out,” he said.

Both Locastro and Schusterick birdied hole 15, prior to which Schusterick finally hit his line off the drive after missing it the last two rounds. Things were clicking then.

“I just had the confidence every time I stepped up to the tee pad like it was my home course,” Schusterick said.

The excitement was ramping up as the card approached hole 16. Schusterick’s super straight mid-range drive left him with a hefty 30-footer, compared to Nikko’s landing spot which was half of that to the basket. When Schusterick canned the putt the crowd erupted with cheers. Schusterick, knowing The Championship was within reach, pumped his fists and strode toward hole 17. Locastro hit his putt too, but time was running out.

For the fourth time in a row, Schusterick laid up to the safe area near hole 17′s tee – a strategy he said he’d stick with on the first day of the tournament. Locastro, needing to make up some strokes fast went for the green, but as his putter made its approach it hit a pine bale and landed OB. Another gasp from the crowd was collectively emitted as they seemed to recognize that Nikko’s chance for a repeat had gone.

Locastro said after the round that he came so close this year.

“I was there,” he said disappointed.

Schusterick then landed his approach to within 12 feet. Making his putt, Schusterick was one hole away from winning the biggest tournament of his life with a three stroke lead cushion.

“Yeah, Will!” a spectator cheered after he converted his putt.

He then threw four putters straight up the fairway. The last one nestled by the basket so he could drop in his 5th to win and celebrate just as fireworks started bursting by the water below.

After Nikko made his par, he was the first one to hug the new USDGC champion.

Fourth place finisher Meresmaa had a good week of his own.

After successfully leading the Presidents Cup, he amazingly put four great rounds together. Being totally consumed by the Cup, which was played earlier in the week, he said he had only practiced the course once.

“I feel really satisfied with this,” said the 3-time Finnish champion.

After the Presidents Cup was over, everything else was icing on the cake.

“I said to Janne (Cup assistant director) that after the Presidents Cup, ‘now we can start our vacation,” Meresmaa said.

Coming in third, Brinster had the hot round with a 56 (-12) today. He said it felt right today.

“The fourth time around the track I really had a good idea what I was doing,” said the New York state champ.

He said the stroke & distance penalty employed this year actually made him play more aggressive. Laying up for many of the holes like ’888′, he said, is just about as tough as biting more off – so he decided to attack the course more often than not.

Schusterick’s win comes at the heels of his team’s collapse during the US Doubles Championship last Sunday. Going into the third to last hole of the tournament, the duo had a share of the lead, but then after numerous OB strokes on that hole and the next two, they found themselves completely out of it. Today must certainly make up for it.

After only three different champions for the first nine years, Schusterick’s win marks the third straight year of a new USDGC champion. Locastro seemed to have ushered in a new era last year as another young gun has taken it this time.

No doubt Locastro will rebound from this defeat stronger than ever. But it still hurts.

“This will be a heart-breaker for me because I had it in my hands,” Locastro said as he practice putted after the round.

Schusterick said he had a hard time sleeping Friday night because he was so anxious to play. He was ready to go at 3 a.m., he said.

“I just knew that my life was going to change,” said Schusterick, who is now $12,000 richer.

Phantom Falls is a Colorado mountain course set on 10 acres of very hilly and heavily wooded land. This is A 30 hole course that plays over varied terrain and is very technical and "tight". It will use every shot in your bag, sharpen your accuracy, and "test the best". This awesome CO mountain course has excellent southern exposure, so it is open, and playable all winter long.

This is a private course that is home to the one of a kind, work of art ASPEN basket, as seen in the DG magazine. Phantom Falls is available for play by calling the owner and arranging a tee time/day. All friendly, well mannered people, & dogs are welcome. Please pre-plan your round @ the Phantom, & call for a "T" time before you intend to play. Phantom Falls Mngt. will only book two "T" times per day, am & pm. This is done to allow the participants to enjoy the course to it's fullest, and allows the group to play @ the pace they desire, and enjoy a peaceful day of DG in the CO mountains W/ no other players or distractions. Groups of four or more will recieve booking priority. Expect to take approx. 4 hours to finish the course. ***NEW for 2010, Phantom Falls now has an extensive pro-shop W/ over 400 discs @ deep discount prices, custom PF wicking "T"'s & discs, hats, and other DG gear. 5 miles from Phantom Falls
We take a much needed break and drive the girls to a local winery near Golden CO.
Backtrack 15 miles and hit this beauty. Be sure to check out the photos page!

( Taken from DGCR ) Pros: 4th stop on my Denver tour.....where to begin..
After walking down the icy trail I made to hole #1, absolutely the nicest tee set-up I've seen to date, custom log bench, snapshot photo signage with a disc golf basket shaped bag hook, then I look up and to see the first hole, holy sh#t, after a couple practice tomahawks one stayed up there. Once I made to #5, the course seemed to flatten out a bit. This course offers up-hill, down-hill, tight tree path and up-hill angled shots, as well as a few mandos; extra nice benches, signage and tee boxes throughout. Has to be one of the beautifulest courses out there. I enjoyed it so much I didn't want to leave, but my sea legs and lungs said it was time to go after 20 holes. If you're in the Denver area, don't miss out on the super sweet course, can't wait to go back to play this course after I play Paul's Phantom Falls course in Pine...

Lightning MX-1

Lightning's fastest driver to date by far, with a wing resembling all the other wide-winged drivers that go farther than anything just a few years ago. Flies like an understable Pro Boss, with a wing-width between an Orc and a Wraith.
Steve Howle, Lightning's founder, owner, general manager, office bartender and charwoman, had this to say about it:

"very fast with a long straight line glide--a little understable below 170 g--second run may be slightly retooled,- we won't cut anything until we run the Pro and Maxline plastic"

Holy Smokes what's Maxline plastic?! What a brave new world!

This is the very first run in Lightning's entry level (i.e. inexpensive and hence not as durable as other versions to come) plastic, and ushers in a new era for Lightning, which was quickly becoming the brand with very controllable discs preferred by beginners.

So move over Mr. Boss, Sir Nuke, and Father Halo, and make room for Herr MX-1. Someone please pinch me, just not too hard in case I'm actually not dreaming.

Some Funny Paw Paw Bits

Chuck Kennedy (Former PDGA board Member says)
He was trapped in the old 2002 rulebook where you used to take your lie on a lost disc at the last point the group saw it. The current rulebook requires the player to rethrow from their original lie on a lost disc which was the tee in this case.

Eric Beich says:
and also I believe the other players in the group, when asked? , are required to help look for the lost disc and have 3 minutes. if not found after 3 minutes of looking then the retee is required.

Jaime Gr8 Roc Shot Ruane's reply:
Yeah it's a brutal rule...but it is the current rule. Your buddy should have calmed down, took a breath and dealt with it. Sounds like a rule book is needed in your bag...someone in the group should always have one....just in case.

Justyn's Reply:
I guess I forgot to add, that I pulled the rule book out and read it aloud to the group. He then went back to retee, only to hit two more trees, Then decide the rules dont matter, and he was gonna take it where he wanted to. Should have been a DNF.

Jaime Gr8 Roc Shot Ruane's reply:
Wow...he should've definitely eaten some humble pie....You and your group were completely in the right on this one.

Just found this on discgolfer.ning.com
Guess i ranted a tad bit.

Sorry to Flame

But, this guy is a complete JACKASS!
"Headed up to Rutgers Disc Golf Course after work on Monday for lots of Disc Golf. It was a nice night to play and great to get out to Rutgers again. I got my 407th, 408th, 409th, and 410th Aces".

After personal e-mails from this douche, pleading how he has actually not "CUBBY" aced all his holes. All I can say is , Fawk you ass-clown!
You have made a joke of the sport.
Get a life ass-nugget.
Joke of the Day:
Did Cubby ACE Today?
Nope, He played a round with someone else!
Did Cubby Ace ever with anyone else as a witness? (2x)
How Many Aces without anybody else? 418? BWAH!
This still kills me, This guy actually has e-mailed me before
pleading his case.
High-larious!

The ION

MVP Disc Sports, a family owned and operated golf disc manufacturing outfit based in Michigan, has introduced its first disc. The Ion is a stable putter comprised of two different kind of plastic; the firm Electron Plastic forms the rim, and the flight plate is a more malleable blend called Proton Plastic.

The first batch of Ions sports a red rim with a blue middle that’s fairly soft, and all of them weigh between 165 and 167 grams. It feels great in the hand, flies straight with a gentle fade at the end of an extended glide, and grabs the chains as if it’s bonding with them on a molecular level. MVP Disc Sports plans to produce its brainchild in a wider range of weights, a rainbow of colors, and varying degrees of flexibility.

803.11 LOST DISC
A. A disc shall be declared lost if the player cannot locate it within three minutes after arriving at the spot where it was last seen by the group or an official. Two players or an official must note when the timing of three minutes begins. All players of the group must, upon request, assist in searching for
the disc for the full three minutes before the disc is declared lost. The disc is considered lost immediately upon the expiration of the three minute time limit.
(which we looked for at least 15 minutes)

B. A player whose disc is declared lost shall receive one penalty throw. If the throw was made from the tee, the player will re-tee for the next shot. If not made from the tee, the group will determine the approximate lie from which the throw was made, and the player will throw again from that lie. In all cases the original throw plus one penalty throw shall be counted in the player's score.

Then the 3rd. Then after the Final Rd on the top card, Eric ends up in a 3 way playoff for 1st. Burton moves from the 2nd card to the 3 way playoff, proving the lead cards lackluster play.
Eric throws a georgous roller almost parking the C pin.
With all other opponents looking at 4's. Eric needs to throw the Whippet around a small group of tree's and take the title.
Eric, Sally's the Whippet shot and then Duff's the putt.
Burton wins it after the 3rd playoff hole.
CLOSE, BUT NO CIGAR!
Sorry my man, ALL of Team Grunt felt that miss!
